Delhi AQI Jumps to 169 as Dusty Winds Return After Early Monsoon Exit

Dust-laden winds linked to a cyclonic circulation drove the first pronounced haze since June.

  • Central Pollution Control Board data showed a spike to a 24-hour average AQI of 169 on Saturday, the highest since mid-June, before easing to 155 by late evening.
  • The India Meteorological Department said the southwest monsoon has withdrawn early and forecast clear to partly cloudy conditions with maximum temperatures around the mid-30s Celsius.
  • IMD reported a Saturday high of 37.2°C, about 1.8°C above normal, with the minimum near 25.7°C and no rainfall recorded in the previous 24 hours.
  • Air quality was in the moderate band earlier in the day, with CPCB readings of 124 at 9 am and 153 at 6 pm, as a grey haze became visible over the city.
  • Morning humidity hovered around 79–82% and fell to about 54% by evening, with the IMD expecting partly cloudy skies on Sunday and a maximum near 36°C.
