Overview

  • Runway 10/28 will be closed from June 15 through September 15 for CAT3B-compliant Instrument Landing System upgrades to enable low-visibility landings from both ends.
  • Airlines will cancel 114 flights and reschedule 86 flights each day, representing roughly 8 percent of the airport’s daily 1,450 flight operations.
  • Delhi International Airport Ltd coordinated with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and carriers on slot adjustments and moved peak-hour flights to non-peak slots to minimize ripple effects.
  • Initial upgrade efforts in April were halted due to unexpected wind patterns and operational strain, prompting the current strategy of extended closure and detailed planning.
  • Once complete, IGI Airport will have three runways equipped for low-visibility operations, enhancing resilience during North India’s dense winter fog spells.
