Delhi Airport Rolls Out AI Command Center and Full CAT‑III Runways for Fog Season

Airport leaders cite CAT‑III upgrades with WiFEX forecasts to speed fog recovery.

Overview

  • Delhi International Airport Limited says runways 10/28, 11L/29R and 11R/29L are now CAT‑III compliant at both ends after installing a CAT‑III ILS on the Dwarka end of 10/28.
  • The Airport Predictive Operations Centre integrates real-time data, predictive weather models and airside inputs to accelerate decisions during low visibility operations.
  • APOC is designed to optimise runway utilisation, refine gate and stand assignments, streamline aircraft sequencing and keep partners updated as conditions change.
  • As a pilot, the airport will use WiFEX data from IITM and IMD that targets about 85% accuracy for 1–36 hour fog forecasts using dense meteorological and aerosol observations.
  • DIAL expects up to roughly 30 landings per hour in low visibility and a reduction in post-fog recovery time from about six hours to around two, while cautioning that weather disruptions cannot be eliminated.
