Delhi Air Quality Nears 'Severe' With 20 Stations Above 400 as Vehicle Curbs Become Permanent

Stagnant winter weather is trapping pollution, with official data naming traffic as the largest source.

Overview

  • Delhi's 24-hour average AQI reached 385 on Saturday, with CPCB data showing at least 20 monitoring stations in the severe category above 400.
  • Hotspots included Shadipur, Vivek Vihar, ITO, Dwarka and Mundka, while locations such as Patparganj and Nehru Nagar logged readings in the 430–440 range.
  • The Delhi government made two GRAP-4 measures permanent: no fuel without a valid PUCC and entry restrictions on vehicles from outside the city that do not meet BS6 norms.
  • The CAQM invoked Stage III of GRAP, tightening curbs on construction and some industrial activities as smog reduced visibility across the region.
  • The DSS attributed the largest share of the pollution load to vehicles at 16.2 percent, and forecasts indicate air quality is likely to stay in the very poor range with fog expected.
