Overview

  • The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of Delhi Police has registered an FIR against former AAP ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain in connection with a ₹2,000 crore classroom construction scam.
  • The alleged scam involves the construction of 12,748 classrooms at inflated costs, with each classroom reportedly built for ₹24.86 lakh, nearly five times the usual cost of ₹5 lakh.
  • Contracts were awarded to 34 contractors, many allegedly linked to the AAP, without following proper tender procedures, and cost escalations of up to 90% were observed without fresh tenders.
  • The Central Vigilance Commission's 2020 report highlighting irregularities and violations of procurement norms was suppressed for three years before the investigation gained formal approval under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
  • The ACB investigation will examine the roles of the former ministers, government officials, and contractors in the alleged conspiracy and financial misconduct.
