Deirdre Kemp Ordered Held After Driving Into Chicago ICE Protest

The judge cited her on-bail status as evidence of potential danger to protesters when ordering her held pending a June 26 court date.

Overview

  • At a June 23 detention hearing, a Cook County judge ordered Kemp held on charges of aggravated reckless driving causing bodily harm and aggravated fleeing with bodily injury.
  • Kemp is accused of veering a 2003 Kia Spectra into a crowd of anti-ICE demonstrators at State and Monroe streets on June 10.
  • Heather Blair, a 66-year-old protester, suffered a broken arm and bruising when an officer lost balance chasing Kemp into the crowd.
  • Prosecutors say Kemp ignored police orders to redirect her vehicle and had three children in the car at the time of the incident.
  • Kemp was on bond for a 2022 felony in Will County when she drove into the protest and is due back in court on June 26.
