The surgery aims to relieve clots in both of Sanders' legs so doctors can perform further surgeries to fix his toes.
Sanders clarified in a YouTube video that amputation is not currently on the table but was presented as a worst-case scenario by doctors.
Sanders is preparing for his first season as head football coach at the University of Colorado.
