Deharji Dam Reaches 5% Live Storage and Initiates Overflow Discharge

The project has obtained all clearances to supply 255 million litres of drinking water daily to Vasai-Virar, Palghar and nearby rural areas by 2027

Overview

  • The dam has stored 5.147 million cubic metres of water, marking 5% live storage and triggering overflow discharge at Reduced Level 90.00 metres.
  • Approximately 80% of physical construction is complete and the project holds all required environmental and technical clearances.
  • The Rs 2,599.15 crore initiative is managed by the Konkan Irrigation Development Corporation with Rs 1,689.42 crore funded so far by the MMRDA.
  • Of its 255 MLD capacity, 190 MLD will go to the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, 50 MLD to CIDCO’s Palghar region and 15 MLD to surrounding rural villages.
  • State leaders praised the engineering milestone as vital to Maharashtra’s water security, and officials say the dam remains on track for completion by late 2027.
