Overview
- The project covered three sites in Chapultepec’s first section: the Obelisk to the Niños Héroes, the Rotunda, and the ahuehuete known as El Sargento.
- Work included a renewed marble floor and maintenance of the Obelisk’s cantera, gate and metal fencing, plus conservation of the monument itself.
- At the Rotunda, the six original 50-centimeter pedestals were replaced with two-meter concrete structures faced with cantera, with perimeter fencing and lighting added for nighttime display.
- The path around El Sargento was upgraded by replacing asphalt with cobblestone bordered by reinforced concrete curbs.
- The Batallón de Parque Ingenieros executed the restoration under Colonel Bibiano Flores Palma with 12 officers and 148 troops, and portraits of the six cadets by painter Abraham Galicia Guerrero were installed during a ceremony led by General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo with city officials in attendance.
