Defence Minister to Lay Foundation for ₹1,800 Crore ‘Brahma’ Rolling Stock Plant in Madhya Pradesh

Scheduled for August 10, the ceremony will kick off construction of a greenfield facility designed for domestic production of high-speed trains as part of India’s self-reliance drive

  • Rajnath Singh will lay the foundation stone for the Brahma plant in Umaria, Raisen district, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav attending
  • The ₹1,800 crore BEML facility will support indigenous design, assembly, testing and production of Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat and metro coaches alongside critical defence equipment
  • Built under a joint effort by the Ministries of Defence and Railways and the Madhya Pradesh government, the plant occupies 148 acres in Goharganj tehsil
  • Initial annual output is set at 125–200 rail coaches, with a planned scale-up to 1,100 units within five years
  • Projected to generate 1,600–2,000 direct and indirect jobs, the plant is a centerpiece of Madhya Pradesh’s industrial growth and the Make in India initiative
