Overview

  • The Defence Acquisition Council is slated to meet in the fourth week of June to review the Rs30,000 crore proposal for three new QRSAM regiments.
  • The DRDO-developed Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile system can search and track targets on the move and engage threats at ranges up to 30 kilometres.
  • The system has completed extensive day-and-night trials and proved effective against simulated aerial threats mimicking aircraft, drones and missiles.
  • Intended for deployment along India’s western and northern borders, the mobile QRSAM will complement existing Akash and MRSAM batteries.
  • Production will be shared by PSUs Bharat Electronics and Bharat Dynamics as part of the Army’s planned 11-regiment expansion of short-to-medium-range air defences.
