Overview

  • The Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, granted Acceptance of Necessity for 10 capital acquisition proposals under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category.
  • Approved systems include armoured recovery vehicles, electronic warfare platforms, a tri-service common inventory management system and Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles to bolster India’s layered air defences.
  • Maritime procurements feature 12 mine countermeasure vessels, moored mines, super rapid gun mounts and submersible autonomous vessels to close long-standing naval mine warfare gaps.
  • This marks the first DAC meeting since the May Operation Sindoor skirmish with Pakistan and reflects an expedited push to replenish and modernise capabilities exposed by recent aerial threats.
  • All projects mandate high indigenous content in line with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision, building on a decade-long expansion of domestic defence production and record exports.
