Deezer/Ipsos Study Finds 97% Can't Tell AI Music From Human as AI Uploads Reach 34% of Daily Tracks

Despite the surge, fully AI-made songs account for only a small share of listening.

Différencier une musique 100% générée par l'intelligence artificielle d'une musique créée par des humains devient presque impossible pour un auditeur, selon un sondage Ipsos pour la plateforme de streaming Deezer

Overview

  • The online blind test surveyed 9,000 adults from October 6–10 across the United States, Canada, Brazil, the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Japan.
  • Deezer reports that roughly 40,000 fully AI-generated tracks are now delivered to its platform each day, up from about one in ten tracks in January.
  • Half of respondents said AI can help them discover new music, while 51% expect more generic, lower-quality songs and 64% foresee a loss of creativity.
  • Deezer says it is currently the only audio service systematically labeling titles that are entirely generated by AI.
  • Context on platforms includes Spotify’s September push for greater disclosure about AI use and June’s viral rise of the AI act The Velvet Sundown on Spotify.
