Overview

  • Sixteen spotted deer died between July 7 and July 12 with post-mortems revealing internal organ bleeding suggestive of infection
  • Zoo officials report no new fatalities over the past three days under enhanced biosecurity and medical measures
  • Viscera, tissue, feed and water samples have been sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Pune Forensic Laboratory and other agencies for detailed analysis
  • Containment measures include separate feeding vehicles, dedicated keepers in hygiene gear and enclosure bleaching to prevent further spread
  • The remaining herd of about 98 deer is receiving antibiotics and is under continuous monitoring by a specialized veterinary team
