DeepSeek Harness Adds Native Image Support and Modular Subagents

The update makes images a persistent part of prompts and introduces storage and distribution changes that will require operators to plan migrations.

Overview

  • The release adds native image requests so formerly text-only commands such as /goal and /plan can include screenshots, local files, and prior conversation history in a single prompt.
  • MCP and ACP now persist image attachments across calls and PTC Mode can forward nested images, which keeps visual context available across multi-turn workflows.
  • The update fixes two image-related failure modes that blocked model requests: oversized image uploads and the buildup of historical-image payloads in long conversations.
  • Claude Code and Codex are now distributed as on-demand Profile Bundles; Codex gains a non-interactive permission mode, support for multiple named instances, and reportDelivery that wakes parent tasks for unattended workflows.
  • Backend changes speed SQLite read/write and shrink storage but use an incompatible schema so operators must migrate their data, and DeepSeek v4 visual model remains unreleased while third-party visual models can be used now; the project has also registered “DeepSeek Harness” as a trademark.
