  • The eclipse unfolds Thursday night into Friday morning on Aug. 27–28 and reaches its maximum at about 12:12 a.m. EDT when most of the lunar disk sits in Earth’s umbra.
  • At peak roughly 93–96% of the Moon will be inside the umbra so a large portion will take on a reddish or copper hue while a bright sliver remains sunlit.
