Overview
- The Bay of Bengal system made landfall near Kalingapatnam between 11 pm on Wednesday and 1 am on Thursday and moved inland, the India Meteorological Department reported.
- Odisha and north coastal Andhra Pradesh recorded very heavy rain with some stations logging more than 300 mm in 24 hours, and Tentulikhunti in Nabarangpur reported 395 mm.
- State authorities evacuated roughly 8,000–10,000 people into about 200 relief centres and deployed 33 ODRAF units plus hundreds of fire service and rescue teams to clear roads and assist isolated communities.
- The downpour caused landslides, uprooted trees, waterlogging and disrupted road and rail links, forcing school closures in multiple districts and prompting coastal and fishermen advisories for rough to very rough seas.
- The IMD says the system has weakened from a deep depression to a depression and should become a well‑marked low within about 24 hours, but heavy localized rain, flash floods and landslide risk will persist and remain under close surveillance.
