Deep Depression Nears Odisha Coast, Landfall Likely Between Gopalpur and Paradip Tonight

Overview
- The Bay of Bengal system intensified into a deep depression Wednesday night and is tracking toward the coast, the IMD said.
- At 5:30 am Thursday, the center was about 190 km south-southeast of Gopalpur and Kalingapatnam, 230 km south of Puri, 250 km east of Visakhapatnam, and 310 km south-southwest of Paradip.
- The weather office now expects the system to cross the Odisha–adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts between Gopalpur and Paradip by Thursday night.
- Odisha issued a red warning for extremely heavy rain in Puri and Jagatsinghpur, with orange alerts across 14 districts and statewide advisories as heavy rain continued from Wednesday.
- Fishermen were told to stay off the sea, ports hoisted Local Cautionary Signal No. III, and squally winds of 55–65 km/h gusting to 75 km/h were forecast over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal from Thursday noon into early Friday.
