Decree 614/2025 Lets Argentina Move Weekend Trasladable Holidays to Friday or Monday

The change puts the Cabinet Chief in charge of shifting weekend trasladable holidays to bolster domestic tourism.

Overview

  • Published in the Boletín Oficial, the decree takes immediate effect and bears the signatures of President Javier Milei and Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos.
  • The Jefatura de Gabinete is named authority of application, empowered to decide case by case and to issue complementary rules.
  • The measure closes a gap in Law 27.399 and applies only to trasladable holidays; inamovible holidays remain fixed on their original dates.
  • The next potential test is the Sunday, October 12 Día del Respeto a la Diversidad Cultural, whose possible move to Friday or Monday is pending a Jefatura decision.
  • Separate from the national change, municipalities have set local asuetos that create patchwork long weekends, including August 29 (La Angelita, Saldungaray, Merlo, Hurlingham) and September 8 (San Pedro).
