DeChambeau, Rahm and Smith Reject PGA Tour Return, Commit to LIV for 2026

A new, penalty-laden route back to the PGA Tour failed to change their plans.

Overview

  • Speaking at LIV’s preseason media event, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith said they will remain with LIV, declining a one-time PGA Tour window that closes February 2.
  • Under the PGA Tour’s Returning Member Program, eligible players face strict conditions that included Brooks Koepka making a $5 million charitable payment and forfeiting player-equity opportunities for five years.
  • Koepka was reinstated on January 12 and is set to open his PGA Tour season at the Farmers Insurance Open, but he must earn entry into signature events and will not receive 2026 FedEx Cup bonus money.
  • Eligibility for the PGA pathway was limited to winners of a major or The Players since 2022, a group that included DeChambeau, Rahm and Smith, each of whom publicly affirmed loyalty to LIV for this season.
  • The Telegraph reported DeChambeau has sought up to $500 million to re-sign with LIV beyond 2026, and Rahm has said he owes more than $3 million in DP World Tour fines as LIV leadership signals it is pursuing OWGR points and relief on those penalties.
