December Trial Set for Wisconsin Judge Accused of Aiding Courthouse Exit From ICE

A federal ruling rejecting her claim of judicial immunity cleared the way for trial.

Overview

  • U.S. District Judge Lynn Adelman set Hannah Dugan’s trial for Dec. 15, with jury selection on Dec. 11–12 in Milwaukee.
  • Dugan’s lawyers told the court she will not appeal the immunity ruling at this time, leaving the case on track for a December jury trial.
  • The indictment charges Dugan with obstructing an official proceeding and concealing a person to prevent arrest, carrying a combined maximum of six years in prison and a $350,000 fine.
  • Prosecutors allege Dugan guided Eduardo Flores-Ruiz and his attorney out a restricted courtroom door on April 18 after learning ICE agents were present, after which agents arrested him following a brief foot chase.
  • Flores-Ruiz pleaded guilty to illegal reentry and agreed to deportation upon release, while he still faces separate misdemeanor domestic battery charges with a state trial set for Oct. 13.
