Overview

  • SSI recipients will be paid on Monday, Dec. 1 for December and again on Wednesday, Dec. 31 for the January 2026 benefit.
  • Retirement, spousal, and survivor benefits go out on Dec. 3 for those paid before May 1997, then by birth date on Dec. 10 (1–10), Dec. 17 (11–20), and Dec. 24 (21–31).
  • SSI issues payments on the first business day of the month, moving them earlier when the first falls on a weekend or holiday, which applies to Jan. 1, 2026.
  • A 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment takes effect in January 2026, lifting monthly Social Security payments by about $56 on average.
  • The Social Security Administration distributes benefits to nearly 74 million people each month and posts full 2025 and 2026 payment calendars online.
