Deccan Gold Says India’s First Large Private Gold Mine Nears Commissioning in Andhra Pradesh

The Jonnagiri project follows recent environmental clearances with state permits still pending.

Overview

  • Managing director Hanuma Prasad says commissioning is "very soon" as project stabilisation and plant technology work continue.
  • Initial output is projected at about 750 kilograms of gold per year, with plans to lift capacity to roughly 1,000 kilograms within two to three years.
  • India produces around 1.5 tonnes of gold annually and imports nearly 1,000 tonnes, and the company expects the mine to add nearly one tonne to domestic supply.
  • DGML holds a stake in developer Geomysore Services India and describes Jonnagiri as the first new Indian gold mine in nearly 80 years.
  • DGML shares rose about 10% on Thursday after reports of the mine nearing launch.
