Decathlon Opens 100th German Store, Plans About 25 More in 2026

The retailer shifts toward smaller city-centre specialist formats to capture demand in a crowded sports market.

Overview

  • New 2026 locations include Lüdenscheid, Oberhausen, Schwetzingen, Saarbrücken and Trier.
  • About 15 additional sites are already under contract but still require local building approvals.
  • Decathlon is allocating more than €100 million for the expansion and the modernization of dozens of existing stores.
  • The company targets at least 150 German stores by the end of 2027 and projects roughly 3,000 new jobs, with 2025 expected to close at about 105 stores after 18 openings.
  • Expansion chief Stefan Kaiser cast the Nürnberg opening as the start of the next growth phase rather than a finish line.
