Overview
- Mechanic Chad Volk spotted the leather wallet in June wedged between the transmission and air filter box of a 2015 Ford Edge and used Facebook to identify and mail it back to Richard Guilford the next day.
- Guilford lost the wallet around Christmas 2014 while working at Ford’s Wayne, Michigan, plant and the car logged roughly 151,000 miles across several states before the discovery in Lake Crystal, Minnesota.
- Inside were Guilford’s driver’s license, Ford work ID, $15 in cash, faded lottery tickets and $250–$275 in gift cards—Cabela’s confirmed the cards remain valid and offered replacements, while Outback Steakhouse’s card status is still unclear.
- Ford Motor Co. spokesperson Said Deep praised the find as “a repair that’s right on the money,” marveling at the slim odds of recovering the lost item after so many miles.
- Now retired, Guilford plans to return every item to the wallet and preserve it as a family keepsake in his china cabinet.
