DeBoer Announces Indefinite Suspension, Injury Outlook as Alabama Preps for LSU

Alabama refocused on fundamentals to counter potential wrinkles from LSU's new setup.

Overview

  • Head coach Kalen DeBoer, with coordinators Ryan Grubb and Kane Wommack, briefed reporters Monday following the bye week ahead of Saturday’s LSU visit to Bryant-Denny Stadium.
  • Defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. was suspended indefinitely after an arrest during the open week, DeBoer said.
  • DeBoer said guard Geno VanDeMark practiced during the bye and is expected to be available, edge Qua Russaw has progressed but is probably not ready, and tight end Danny Lewis Jr. is hopeful to play after increased practice work.
  • Grubb said the staff used the bye for self-scouting and targeted the run game, stressing renewed attention to blocking, ball security and execution details.
  • Wommack praised LSU’s offensive explosiveness and noted he anticipates some new wrinkles with Frank Wilson as interim coach and Alex Atkins calling plays; kickoff is 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday on ABC, with Alabama entering 7-1 and unbeaten in SEC play.
