Death Toll Climbs to Seven After Dargah Collapse Near Humayun’s Tomb

A negligence FIR has been filed following the seizure of CCTV footage to investigate whether dilapidation or unauthorised construction caused the collapse.

  • Hospitals reported a seventh fatality as another injured person succumbed, bringing confirmed deaths from the Patte Shah dargah collapse to seven.
  • Delhi Police registered an FIR under sections 290, 125 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unidentified individuals for negligent construction and causing death by negligence.
  • Investigators have seized DVR and CCTV footage and are examining testimony from dargah caretakers to determine if pre-existing structural decay or unauthorised work contributed to the collapse.
  • Rescue operations involving Delhi Fire Services, NDRF, police and civic agencies are complete and the site has been cordoned off pending further safety and ownership inquiries.
  • The ASI and AKTC confirmed that the collapse affected an external peripheral structure and that the core 16th-century Humayun’s Tomb monument remains undamaged.
