Death Row Inmate Killed by Fellow Prisoners at California Facility

Alberto Martinez, a member of the Mexican Mafia, was fatally beaten by three inmates at Calipatria State Prison.

Alberto Martinez, 46, was attacked and killed by three fellow inmates at Calipatria State Prison on Thursday.
Martinez was struck with incarcerated-manufactured weapons by Tyler A. Lua, Jorge D. Negrete-Larios, and Luis J. Beltran.
Prison staff intervened using pepper spray and a baton strike but Martinez died from his injuries within an hour.
Martinez was on death row for first-degree murder and had orchestrated murders from prison using a contraband cell phone.
All three attackers have been placed in restricted housing pending an investigation into the incident.
