Dearborn Man Sentenced to 34 Months for Felon-in-Possession After Antisemitic Threats at Synagogue

Officials describe a coordinated response to protect a synagogue community following threats and an attempted gun purchase.

Overview

  • The 38-year-old Dearborn resident was sentenced to 34 months in federal prison on Wednesday for being a felon in possession of firearms.
  • Prosecutors said he pleaded guilty in May after he left Temple Beth El and then handled multiple guns inside a Dearborn store.
  • The Dec. 2, 2022 encounter outside the Bloomfield Hills preschool involved antisemitic threats toward parents, children and security.
  • In the store, he held a 12-gauge shotgun, a 5.56mm rifle and a 9mm pistol, lied on the purchase form about a prior felony, and said he would "even the score" for "God’s wrath" before a background check blocked the sale.
  • The FBI investigated and the U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, as Oakland County separately pursued ethnic-intimidation charges.
