Deal Ends San Marcos Campus Takeover, Classes Resume Monday

A Defensoría-led dialogue delivered concessions intended to stabilize the academic calendar.

Overview

  • After the talks, students lifted the occupation Saturday night and handed over the campus at Gate No. 1 in the presence of Rector Jeri Ramón Ruffner, with the Defensoría del Pueblo mediating between authorities and FUSM leaders.
  • The agreement eliminates the matrícula payment for entrants pursuing a second career and annuls recent Admission 2026-I rule changes that had imposed fees and restrictions.
  • Student welfare measures include expanding dining service hours from October 1 and increasing daily rations to 2,600 lunches, 1,050 dinners and 700 breakfasts by November 15.
  • The university will archive administrative and criminal processes linked to the protests, provide legal assistance to affected students and coordinate oversight with the Defensoría.
  • The Admission 2026-I exam remains postponed after the takeover, with new dates yet to be announced.
