Deadly Nasca Crash and Ocoña Truck Collision Disrupt Panamericana Sur

Investigators examine possible speeding or lane violations after the twin crashes.

Overview

  • In Poroma, Nasca (km 470) on Dec. 7, a small car collided head-on with a tanker truck, leaving three dead—including a mother and her 7-year-old—and one woman critically injured.
  • The survivor, Domenica Melissa Mariño Huayta, was treated in Nasca and referred to the Regional Hospital of Ica as relatives issued a public appeal for help with medical costs.
  • Near Ocoña in Camaná (km 778) on Dec. 8, a refrigerated truck with plate B9U-949 overturned and blocked both lanes before a Hyundai pickup V8O-134 crashed into it, seriously injuring three people.
  • Health officials said the Ocoña victims were stabilized at the local health center and transferred to the Hospital of Camaná, and the overturned truck’s fish cargo was scattered across the road.
  • Traffic was temporarily restricted at both sites for rescue and cleanup, and police and prosecutors continue their inquiries without a preliminary report released.
