Torrential rains and landslides in the Democratic Republic of Congo have resulted in at least 22 fatalities, with many of the victims being members of the same family.
Over 15 houses were swept away in the landslides in Kananga, the capital of the Kasai-Central region.
Significant material damage was caused by the floods, including damage to the Higher Institute of Technology of Kananga, a church, and a major road.
Flooding and landslides are frequent in parts of Congo, particularly in remote areas; in May, over 400 people died in similar circumstances in South Kivu province.
Urgent action is being requested from the national government to address the situation.
