Deadly Apartment Fire Near Bordeaux Claims Two Lives, Leaves Three Injured

An accidental fire in a Saint-Médard-en-Jalles residence is believed to have started from a candle and Christmas tree, prompting an investigation.

A fire broke out late Sunday night in a first-floor apartment of the Berlincan residence in Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, near Bordeaux.
Two people, including the 67-year-old occupant of the apartment and a 60-year-old woman from the floor above, lost their lives in the blaze.
Three others, including a 14-year-old boy and two women aged 40 and 52, sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by a candle and a Christmas tree, though investigators have not yet confirmed the exact cause.
Ten residents were displaced, and local authorities, along with the building’s management, are providing temporary housing and assistance.
