Dead Longhorn Found at Oklahoma State Fraternity Ahead of Big 12 Championship Game

Police and University Conduct Investigations as Animal Cruelty Suspected in Incident

  • A dead longhorn cow was found on the lawn of the FarmHouse fraternity at Oklahoma State University (OSU) on the morning of December 1, 2023, a day before OSU's football team was set to play against the Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 championship game.
  • The longhorn's carcass had an expletive carved into its side and its stomach was cut open. The incident is being investigated as potential animal cruelty, a felony, and improper disposal of a dead animal.
  • Stillwater Police Department and the university’s Office of Student Support and Conduct are both conducting investigations. The person responsible could face an animal cruelty charge, at minimum, which is a felony.
  • The FarmHouse fraternity, founded by agriculture students, expressed shock and disgust at the incident, stating that no member was involved and that they do not condone cruelty or defacing of livestock in any manner.
  • The incident occurred as the 11-1 Texas Longhorns were preparing to face the 9-3 Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 Championship Game on December 2, 2023.
