DEA Weeklong Surge Nets 617 Arrests in Sinaloa Cartel Crackdown

Officials cast the results as one step in a continuing, multiagency effort to dismantle the cartel.

Overview

  • From August 25 to 29, agents executed coordinated actions across 23 U.S. field divisions and seven foreign regions targeting the cartel’s network.
  • Authorities reported seizures of 480 kilograms of fentanyl powder, about 714,700 counterfeit pills, 2,209 kilograms of methamphetamine, 7,469 kilograms of cocaine, 420 firearms, and roughly $13 million in currency and assets.
  • In New England, 171 suspects were arrested as officials seized 244 kilograms of drugs, 22,115 counterfeit pills, $1.3 million in cash, and 33 firearms.
  • DEA Administrator Terrance Cole said the agency will not relent until the Sinaloa Cartel is dismantled from top to bottom.
  • The operation was coordinated with Homeland Security and other partners and follows the cartel’s designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization in February.
