DEA Sets Oct. 25 National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

The free, anonymous program aims to curb medication misuse by removing unused prescriptions from homes.

Overview

  • DEA guidance says tablets, capsules, patches and other solid medications are accepted, with no liquids, syringes, sharps or illegal drugs, and vaping devices allowed only with lithium batteries removed.
  • Police agencies across the Tri-Cities region will host drop-offs, including sites in Johnson City, Bristol, Abingdon and Glade Spring during the event hours.
  • In Northeast Ohio, University Hospitals and Cleveland Clinic will offer multiple drop-off locations alongside area police departments.
  • Participation is free and anonymous with no questions asked, according to the Justice Department and DEA.
  • Outside the one-day event, about 11,000 authorized collectors accept medications for disposal year-round.
