Overview

  • Bill de Blasio reached a settlement with the NYC Conflicts of Interest Board over his improper use of NYPD security during his 2020 presidential campaign.
  • The agreement requires de Blasio to pay $229,794.20, including an immediate $100,000 payment and quarterly $14,000 installments over four years.
  • The board waived $145,000 of its original fine due to de Blasio's financial situation and agreed not to pursue his estate if he dies before completing payments.
  • If de Blasio defaults on the payment plan, he will owe the full original liability of nearly $475,000.
  • This marks the first ethics enforcement action against a sitting NYC mayor, following a three-year investigation and failed legal appeals by de Blasio.
