Overview
- Peter Safran told Deadline on the Clayface red carpet on Wednesday that work is ongoing and “the script is being written as we speak.”
- James Mangold remains attached as the film’s expected director and has described his plan as a standalone, Gothic horror take focused on a man/monster story.
- DC Studios has not announced a production start date or release timeline, and Safran’s remarks do not constitute a formal green light to begin filming.
- Industry reporting says Mangold’s renewed focus on Swamp Thing is likely to put his previously announced Star Wars project, Dawn of the Jedi, on hold.
- Swamp Thing was unveiled in 2023 as part of DC Studios’ Chapter One slate and its active development contrasts with several other announced DC projects that have been delayed or shelved.
