DB Shuts HersbruckPegnitz Rail Line Indefinitely for Bridge Inspections

Safety checks on several Pegnitz bridges triggered the shutdown pending planning‑intensive renewals in the narrow valley.

Overview

  • Rail service between Hersbruck and Pegnitz is suspended from Friday until further notice for technical checks on multiple bridges.
  • Deutsche Bahn is operating hourly rail‑replacement buses from Pegnitz to Hersbruck and direct hourly buses on BayreuthNürnberg, PegnitzNürnberg and Neuhaus–Nürnberg routes.
  • Regional lines 30, 31, 32 and 38 are halted, while other regional services continue to run between Hersbruck and Nürnberg.
  • DB says bridge renewals are in preliminary planning and particularly complex due to the Fränkische Schweiz topography, and it cannot give a reopening timeline.
  • Bavaria’s transport minister and the Nürnberger Land district chief criticized DB’s handling and delays, arguing that commuters and the region are paying the price.
