  • On July 13, lawyer Jitendra Kumar was shot dead by unidentified assailants just 300 metres from Patna’s Sultanganj police station and died during treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital.
  • The Begusarai shooting on July 14 marked at least five brazen attacks in ten days, following the killings of businessman Gopal Khemka and BJP farmer leader Surendra Kewat.
  • Police recovered multiple bullet casings, deployed forensic squads and formed special investigation teams as they sift through CCTV footage to identify the gunmen and motive.
  • Opposition figures have branded the Nitish Kumar administration ‘jungle raj’ and declared Bihar the ‘crime capital of India’ in response to the violence.
  • Senior officers attribute the surge to easy access to illegal firearms and ammunition, with SCRB data recording 1,376 murders in Bihar during the first half of 2025.
