Daylight Saving Time Ends Nov. 2 Across Most of the U.S.

Federal law still blocks states from making daylight saving time permanent.

Overview

  • Clocks shift back one hour at 2:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, November 2, 2025, returning to standard time until March 8, 2026.
  • The change applies to most of the country, while Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands do not adjust clocks.
  • Phones, smartwatches and computers generally update automatically, but analog clocks must be reset by hand.
  • California and Florida will make the switch on schedule despite repeated state pushes to fix time year‑round, including California’s Proposition 7 and a 2025 proposal by Senator Rick Scott that did not advance.
  • Under the 1966 federal framework overseen by the Department of Transportation, states can choose permanent standard time only, and any move to permanent daylight time requires congressional approval.
