Day Laborer Detained After Seizing Officer’s Pistol During Las Heras Patrol

He is now in judicial custody after treatment for head injuries sustained during his arrest.

Overview

  • The incident began around 2:30 a.m. in Barrio Cristo Redentor when a 32-year-old day laborer fled from a Policía de Mendoza patrol.
  • In the ensuing struggle the suspect struck, kicked and bit officers before grabbing a 9 mm service pistol and threatening to kill them.
  • Police officers managed to subdue the man a short distance from the scene and recover the service weapon without further harm to the force.
  • While being placed in the patrol car the detainee repeatedly banged his head against the window, causing lacerations to his forehead.
  • He was treated at Hospital Carrillo for his injuries and has since been formally handed over to the judicial authorities.
