David Ross Pursues MLB Return, Calls Braves Opening 'Amazing'

After two seasons out of the dugout, the former Cubs manager is targeting a skipper role during an unusually open hiring cycle.

Overview

  • Ross told The Athletic he wants to manage again, saying the itch to return has not gone away.
  • In an Associated Press interview, he said the Atlanta Braves job would be amazing, while noting he is unsure whether he is a candidate.
  • He said he has declined bench-coach opportunities over the past two offseasons because he prefers to lead a team.
  • Ross said he was not interviewed by the Reds, Marlins or White Sox during last year’s searches, and this fall there are eight vacancies leaguewide, including the Twins, Giants, Nationals, Orioles, Rangers and Angels.
  • He managed the Cubs from 2020 to 2023, went 262–284, and won the 2020 NL Central after taking the job without prior coaching experience.
