DePape, who faces life in prison if convicted, stated that he was driven by right-wing conspiracy theories and had intended to kidnap Nancy Pelosi to confront her about perceived government corruption.
DePape admitted to striking Paul Pelosi with a hammer when his plan was interrupted, but insisted that Paul Pelosi was not his intended target.
Paul Pelosi testified that he was asleep when DePape broke into his home, and managed to call 911 before being attacked.
Closing arguments in the trial are expected to begin on Wednesday.
