David DePape Convicted on Federal Charges for Attack on Paul Pelosi

DePape, who attacked Pelosi with a hammer at his San Francisco home, faces a maximum sentence of up to life in prison.

  • David DePape, 43, was found guilty on federal charges of attempted kidnapping and assault on account of a federal official's performance of official duties, following his attack on Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
  • The attack took place at the Pelosi's San Francisco home on Oct. 28, 2022, just days before the midterm elections. DePape was arrested at the scene.
  • DePape claimed he went to the home to talk to Rep. Pelosi about Russian interference in the 2016 election and that her husband was 'never my target.'
  • Paul Pelosi suffered a skull fracture and was hospitalized for six days. He continues to make progress in his recovery.
  • DePape also faces state charges including attempted murder, residential burglary and assault with a deadly weapon. A state trial date has not yet been scheduled.
