David Carrick Gets Additional Life Sentence After New Child Abuse and Rape Convictions

Officials say the evidence, including a 1990 confession, laid bare systemic failures.

Overview

  • The Old Bailey imposed an additional life term with a 30-year minimum to run concurrently with the life terms and 32-year minimum imposed in 2023.
  • A jury on 19 November convicted Carrick of two rapes, sexual assault, and coercive and controlling behaviour against a former partner between 2014 and 2019.
  • He was also found guilty of five indecent assaults on a 12-year-old in the late 1980s, supported at trial by a confession letter dated 29 August 1990.
  • Mrs Justice McGowan said the lack of action on the 1990 confession may have enabled later offending.
  • Wiltshire Police admitted failing to properly follow up a 2016 contact and apologized, the Met issued its own apology, and officers urged other victims to come forward.
