David Brian Pearce Sentenced to 146 Years to Life for Fentanyl Murders and Serial Sex Assaults

The punishment follows a case built on medical examiner findings and testimony from seven other women who described drug-facilitated attacks.

Overview

  • A Los Angeles judge on Oct. 29 ordered Pearce to serve 146 years to life in state prison and to register as a lifetime sex offender.
  • A jury in February convicted Pearce of two counts of first-degree murder and seven sex crimes, including forcible rape, sexual penetration by force, sodomy by force and rape of an unconscious victim.
  • Prosecutors said Pearce met Christy Giles, 24, and Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, 26, at a warehouse party in 2021, took them to his Beverly Hills apartment, provided GHB and fentanyl, and later left them outside separate hospitals.
  • The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner ruled both deaths homicides after multiple drugs, including fentanyl and GHB, were found in their systems.
  • Co-defendant Brandt Osborn’s accessory-after-the-fact case ended in a mistrial, and a new proceeding is set to begin with a Nov. 18 pretrial; prosecutors also noted in court that one accuser was Officer Lauren Craven, who recently died after stopping to help crash victims.
