David Austin Names ‘Sir David Beckham’ Rose, Sets Chelsea Flower Show Launch for 2026

Commissioned by daughter Harper for his 50th, the white English shrub will send £2.50 per sale to The King’s Foundation.

Overview

  • David Austin Roses confirmed the cultivar’s decade-long development from a 2012 cross after extensive trials and selection.
  • Public sales are scheduled to start on 18 May 2026 via the company’s website, its Shropshire plant centre and selected stockists, with bare-root plants priced from £27.50.
  • The rose is described as producing luminous white, semi-double cups with golden stamens and a complex fragrance featuring notes from green banana to honeyed musk, nougat, clove and myrrh.
  • Beckham wrote that the gesture moved him to tears and said he has planted a circular rose garden at his Cotswolds home to grow the variety.
  • In May, King Charles III was reported to have sent ten large pots of the rose in bloom to Beckham, who is also reported to be an ambassador of The King’s Foundation.
