Davenport Mother Charged After Boarding School Bus to Confront Student

Deputies say they will prosecute the case even though the victim's parents asked the school to handle it internally.

Overview

  • Latanya Rowe, 48, entered a Davenport High School bus and cursed at a student and the driver, delaying the route for about 50 to 60 minutes, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
  • Investigators tie the confrontation to an Oct. 24 fight and say witnesses reported Rowe's son and daughter had bullied the victim for a week and used racial slurs.
  • The victim recorded the encounter on his phone, and the sheriff's office released a portion showing Rowe yelling profanities and threats.
  • Deputies located Rowe after she told them via her Ring camera she was at the high school, where school resource deputies found her yelling in the front office and arrested her after she resisted.
  • Rowe faces charges of disrupting a school function, trespassing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest; her daughter was taken into custody for resisting and violating Florida's 25-foot 'Halo law,' and Rowe later posted a $1,750 bond and was released.
