Datafolha Poll Finds Petistas Now Outnumber Bolsonaristas in Brazil

Fielded Dec. 2–4 with a two-point margin of error, the survey measures political identity on a 1–5 self-placement scale rather than vote intention.

Overview

  • Datafolha reports 40% of Brazilians identify as petista and 34% as bolsonarista, with 18% neutral, 6% none and 1% no answer, totaling 74% aligned to one of the two poles.
  • Compared with July, petistas edged up from 39% to 40% and bolsonaristas slid from 37% to 34%, ending the prior technical tie.
  • Petismo is stronger among women (42%), retirees (45%), people with up to primary education (52%) and Catholics (48%).
  • Bolsonarismo is more common among men (37%), business owners (41%), those earning five to ten minimum wages (42%) and evangelicals (47%).
  • Regionally, identification with the PT is higher in the Northeast (49%) and support for Bolsonaro’s camp is stronger in the South (41%); outlets note the poll followed Bolsonaro’s arrest and conviction reported in the STF.
